Version 1.2.1 Through Review

This is a bit of a double-edged sword for me.  Version 1.2.1 was identified as Ready for Sale by Apple today, but the binary they reviewed includes a labeling mistake on the dictionary entry page.  In the version that will likely show up this evening, the labels "Simplified" and "Traditional" are swapped.  Other than what amounts to a typo, DianHua Dictionary v1.2.1 has been working significantly better in testing than v1.2.

If you are interested in helping test beta versions of DianHua Dictionary, please let me know.  Installation is far from straightforward, and the beta and AppStore versions won't co-exist peacefully.  That said, I could certainly use a few extra sets of eyes as new features are implemented.

Special thanks to the commenters on this site, the reviewers on iTunes, and especially the existing beta testers.  All of the feedback and effort has been very helpful.

Just love DianHua! Great tool...
...but for beginners, like me, the presence of
Traditional characters is just confusing. Could there be an option to use only
Simplified?
...the great java program, Dimsum, has the option to search for a
phrase in the beginning, end, or anywhere, as well as exact. That would also be
wonderful.
...searching is slow, but that is difficult to improve, I
guess.

Cheers,
Sam

We will be adding toggles for Traditional and Simplified characters in the next
version so you will be able to turn either or both on or off.

As far as
search speed and options, I'm still considering a variety of options in that
area. My primary goal is to improve speed, and we're continuing to work on ways
to do that.

The speed gains we saw under OS X in 1.2.1 didn't seem to
translate to the iPhone/iPod touch so we'll continue to tweak it until we find a
better combination of speed and accuracy.

I am an art project that want to put on to iPhone. It's a database of some sort
- very similar to what you have put together on DianHua. So I thought I'd reach
you and see if you can help. If you can send me an email to
alan999@gmail.com I can tell you more detail. Tks! Alan
