Almost There...

Apple™ informed me today that DianHua Dictionary is "Ready for Sale".  I initially thought that meant it was already in the App Store, but I was wrong.  After a little research on the developer forum, what that seems to mean is that it could show up in the App Store anytime in the next couple of days.

Excellent dictionary, a surprise which I downloaded first thing this morning.
I'd been waiting for a better reference to arrive than the compact SlovoEd
version (no doubt hurriedly released with the Olympics in mind), which I bought
without realising how small it was.

I think you could improve usability at
the interface, the buttons would look better if more animated, perhaps turning
blue (the coolest colour I've seen on the iPod Touch for lists and
dictionaries). A page on the pronunciation of pinyin would be nice to see, too,
and a larger font size.

Oops, sounds like I'm complaining when in fact you've
made my day! I'll be using this at once.
Libin Pan  - Wow!     |2008-08-22 14:48:01
I've been looking for this for ever!

Thanks! Thanks! Thanks!
Jason  - Thanks for the Feedback   |2008-08-22 14:57:06
Chris: All feedback is welcome, positive or negative. I'm just pleased a few
people are interested in the application.

I will be enhancing the UI
substantially for the next release, and part of that will most likely include a
settings page so you can pick your font sizes.

I hadn't thought about a
Pinyin pronunciation page...I'll give that some thought.

Libin Pan: Glad you
like it.

Hey, just wanted to let you know I appreciate your work in making a Chinese
dictionary for iPhone :).

Does your program have a feature that lets you look
up characters in the dictionary by drawing them in? If not, it would be really
awesome because I wouldn't need to go and spend $500 on an electronic translator
haha.
Jason  - Yes, you can draw characters...   |2008-08-23 02:12:48
...using the iPhone's built-in functions. Try this:

1. Go to Settings.

2.
Go to General.

3, Go to Keyboard (remember to scroll down).

4. Go to
International Keyboards.

5. Scroll Down to Chinese.

6. Pick either
Simplified or Traditional.

7. Switch Handwriting to On.

Now, go back into
DianHua, press on the Chinese search, and press in the search box so the
keyboard comes up. There's a little globe key now on your keyboard. Press that
to switch to the drawing input keyboard you chose earlier (if you have more
keyboards enabled, you may have to hit it a few times).

All you have to do
now is draw your character, click on the one on the right that matches, and then
run the search.

Oh my god I just tried it, that's so amazing! Thank you so much for this app!
J Saper  - Canada availability?     |2008-08-25 21:55:12
This is what I've looking for since migrating from a Treo and wanting to replace
my Palm Ch-En dictionary.
One snag, it's apparently not available on the Canada
iTunes. I figure this is probably an Apple decision, but I'm hoping you can help
this app find it's way into Canada.
I'm looking forward to this app!
Jason  - Not in Canada?   |2008-08-26 05:08:18
The reports Apple provides me on downloads show quite a few downloads from
Canada???? I'm a bit confused as to why you wouldn't be able to find it.

2.
Touch the Search tab.

3. Touch in the search field at the top, type in
"dianhua", and touch Search.

4. The only result should be DianHua
Dictionary. Touch the icon.

5. Touch the "FREE" button and then touch
INSTALL.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
